Curation Restoration
Designer
A design doc for a game that mixes Animal Crossing and 1100s-1700 European history. My team was tasked with making a history based educational game.
Document Excerpts
“A historical twist on popular cozy games, our proposed game will be a crossover of Animal Crossing and Pokémon featuring interactable iconic European figures and historic locations from 1000-1700 CE. Players will be left in charge of revitalizing a dilapidated museum by exploring various time periods, meeting various historical figures, expanding the map of the museum, and decorating visitor spaces.”
Game Concept
“Quiz” to get characters on the island/in the museum.
When the player discovers a new NPC, there will be a cut scene that gives their historical background. At the end of the cutscene, the NPC will quiz the player on a fact that was covered in the cutscene. If the player chooses correctly, the NPC will be added to their respective section of the museum. If the player chooses incorrectly, the NPC will be unavailable for a period of time until the player can try and collect them again.
Game Progression
The general look of Curation Restoration is inspired by the soft, relaxing, and personable aesthetic of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Tomodachi Life. The environment of each historical figure’s area should reflect the atmosphere and feel of their location and time period while still maintaining the relaxed nature of the game. Historical locations should be as historically accurate as possible. The environment of customizable areas should be open enough to encourage players to decorate their space.
